Florida State University's
Energy & Environmmental Alliance provides comprehensive energy and environmental
education programs for Florida teachers and their students. The Alliance has
maintained an excellent record of working with schools, school districts and
state agencies to implement and evaluate educational programs. The Alliance
is housed in the Institute of Science and Public Affairs at Florida State University.
Instructional Material Development
The Alliance has developed and implemented innovative and award-winning
instructional materials for the Florida Departments of Education, Environmental
Protection and Community Affairs. Our latest project was a collaborative effort
with the Interactive Media Science Project in the College of Education to produce
a highly interactive videodisc and print materials on ecosystem management for
Florida's middle schools. Our capabilities include topic research, material
design, illustrations, field testing, and preparing camera-ready copy. We are
capable of producing interactive CD-ROMs and websites.
Teacher Education
We have a Florida-wide network of dynamic and highly motivational teacher educators
who work with the Alliance on a contractual basis. Our leadership teams provide
schools and school districts with cost-effective alternatives for inservice
programs on a variety of topics including biodiversity, solid waste management
and energy supply and demand, and water resource management.
Program Evaluation
Program evaluation, including student assessment, has been an integral part
of our instructional material development and teacher education activities.
Our efforts are highly regarded by state resource agencies, water management
districts and the environmental education community.
Awards
Our programs and instructional materials have been honored with awards from
the Governor's Council for a Sustainable Florida, US Environmental Protection
Agency, US Department of Energy, Florida Chamber of Commerce, and others.
